Craigslist comes to Elko

September 22nd, 2009 · 1 Comment

How come nobody told me about this?  I’ve been an avid Craigslister over the past few years, but I always check Salt Lake City, Reno and Twin.  I decided to check Nevada again and Elko has its very own craiglist now!
http://elko.craigslist.org/
We’ve hit the big time!  I’ve seen a few bulletin board posts about a “different” [...]

The best place in Nevada to be.

August 20th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Now that’s probably a stretch, but I agree with most of this article from Fortune magazine about Elko:
Elko, Nevada: where the recession never hit
It’s actually a great read, lots of information, past and present, about the beautiful town of Elko, Nevada.

It’s Expo week

June 9th, 2009 · 1 Comment

The 2009 Elko Mining Expo is this week!  Pretty much every hotel room in town is occupied, and restaurants should be full every night (don’t try to go to The Star this week).  The wife works for a local mining supplier in town so she’s a busy little bee getting everything ready.  The Elko Convention [...]

Obama returns to Elko today.

September 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Barack Obama is returning to Elko today for a rally at the city park at 11:00am.
I won’t be attending.  Not because I don’t like Obama as a candidate, but because I’m just not all that into politics.  I do feel like I should be more involved than I am.  My parents didn’t push their political [...]

Back to school,
Back to school
To prove to Dad
that I’m not a fool
Billy Madison would be proud.  It’s school time again in Elko.  But doesn’t August 18th seem a little early?
According to the Elko Daily Free Press:
The first day creeped up a little earlier this year, as the third Monday of August fell three days earlier [...]

10 things I hate about Elko, Nevada (in no particular order)

August 4th, 2008 · 14 Comments

Lack of Trees and “Green-ness”– I miss Oregon.
Rude customer service — some businesses give off quite the if-you-don’t-like-it-just-try-to-go-somewhere-else vibe, especially car dealerships.
No affordable housing — Houses seem to have leveled off a bit, but apartment prices just keep going up and up and there still just aren’t enough.
Slow Mail/Shipping service.  — There’s no such thing [...]
