Only 3 months without a post. New record! I was in Vancouver, BC last week for work. It was pea-soup foggy for only the first 5 days, so by Friday I finally was able to see more than a block down the street. I figured out a few things about Canadian (or perhaps just BC) people. They really like:
- Apple juice
- Maple Syrup
- Gravy
- America
Not necessarily in that order.
I had Poutine for the first time, though probably not at the best place for it, Red Robin. It really was everything I had expected it to be. French Fries, Cheese curds, gravy. I don’t think it was the best thing I’ve ever eaten, but it wasn’t bad. Would I eat it every day? No. Once every couple months? maybe. The next time I visit Canada? Of course!
I missed out on the Chinese New Year by a week. They were getting really excited up there, would have been a lot of fun. Instead I celebrated by eating some Sweet and Sour chicken for lunch on Monday.

I can’t figure out why US Americans haven’t already embraced poutine: potatoes, grease, cheese, and gravy?!? Maybe if it had bacon too . . .

When I open my restaurant in Elko, I will put poutine on the menu.
