Obama returns to Elko today.

Barack Obama is returning to Elko today for a rally at the city park at 11:00am.

I won’t be attending.  Not because I don’t like Obama as a candidate, but because I’m just not all that into politics.  I do feel like I should be more involved than I am.  My parents didn’t push their political views on us as children; I don’t really even remember if they voted.  I’m 34 and I’ve never voted.  I just don’t feel like I understand the candidates and their platforms and all the initiatives and measures well enough to make an informed decision.  I don’t even really know what the differences are between Republicans and Democrats.  I caught the tail end of the Republican convention on TV, and the conclusion that I came to is that Republicans are old and white.  Is that correct?  And as far as the “conventions” and “rallies” go, what’s with all the people cheering and holding up signs and all that, like it’s some sort of rock concert?  Are they drunk?  Do they get paid?  Are they all relatives of the candidate?  I don’t see how someone can go to an event like that and stand up and cheer and carry on like a lunatic unless they have something riding on it.  I don’t think I could ever possibly feel *that* strongly about another person. Am I just too cynical?
