Dave Knows: Elko

Blizzcon, the World Of Warcraft Mecca, is at the Anaheim Convention Center on October 10th and 11th.  This is the WoW event of the year, unless you were in Paris for the WorldWide Invitational a few months ago.  I will be there with bells on.  I’ll be driving with the boy and we’re planning on doing this on the cheap.  Drive down on the 9th. (12 hour drive?) Visit the convention on the 10th and 11th, then drive back on the 12th.  If we’re really tired, maybe drive only to Vegas on the 12th and the rest of the way back to Elko on the 13th.  If we do stop in Vegas we’ll probably visit the Pinball Hall of Fame while we’re there.  I drive a shitty ‘89 Tercel with no cruise control and I am keeping my fingers crossed that it completes the trip.

Last year, attendees got goodie bags with beta keys (for the expansion, Wrath of the Lich King) and in-game Murloc suits!  I hope we get something cool this year.  Any other Elkoans headed that direction?  Maybe we can carpool.  Though I must warn you that I can be pretty stingy sometimes.  I’m looking for a $60/night hotel room (next to Disneyland, good luck, right?) and it’s gonna be Macdonalds and Taco Bell when we’re there. I don’t mess around.  No laptops are allowed in the convention center, but I’ll definitely blog what I can when I get back to the hotel room.

Update!  I don’t have my tickets yet!!!  My wife has been trying all day to buy the tickets but has been unsuccessful.  Apparently the operators of the largest online game in the world are having some “issues” with their website.  Keeping my fingers crossed that I can get tickets!!!

9:50pm update!  No tickets yet :(  I’m beginning to hate Blizzard.   They have really handled this situation poorly.  Read all the rants on their forums before they get deleted here.

8:45am update.  The Blizzard store is still down.  This is absurd.  It’s a SLAP IN THE FACE to everyone who pays to play this damn game.  My wife and I are both at work and of course the site is blocked, so I hired a friend’s wife to try to buy the tickets for me.  Still keeping my fingers crossed but hope is fading fast…
