What would MacGyver do?

August 5th, 2008 · 2 Comments

As a family we like to watch TV.  But we only get the basic BASIC cable, which gives us channels 2-16.  Pretty much just the major networks, plus PBS and the home shopping network.  That’s it.  So we’ve been subsidising it with DVD series.  A few months back we finished off Roseanne (wife’s favourite show) and moved on to MacGyver.  We’re done with season 5 with only 2 more to go.  Macgyver was one of my favourite shows when I was a teenager.  I thought he was the coolest.  He could fix anything!  I’m not much of a fisherman but I always wanted to try that whole gum-wrapper-lure thing that he learned from his grandpa.

It’s great watching some of these old 80’s shows to see all the “before they were stars” stars and guests.  Cuba Gooding Jr was on quite a few episodes, and of course who can forget Teri Hatcher as Penny Parker.  (God, she was annoying)  Robert Englund(Freddy Kreuger), Tia Carrere, and Mayim Bialik (Blossom) were all on a few times too.

There are rumors floating around the intertubes suggesting that there will be a MacGyver movie sometime in the next few years. It better be done right.  If they cheese it up, throw Jimmie Fallon or Steve Martin in it or something stupid like that, I swear to god I will throw a fit.  There can be only one MacGyver, and that is Richard Dean Anderson, baby.

Definitely the best series Richard Dean Anderson ever starred in.

My favorite MacGyver trick was when he used a pine cone to blow up a jeep. Awesome! And so, totally, realistic!

MacGyver is as realistic as realism gets! Check out all the problems solved by Mac:
